Herbal tea dates back to the ancient times of healing. Steeping dried leaves in hot water was not only soothing, but then and still, infusing plants in water actives the natural properties of the plant and aids the body.

Herbal teas are used to remedy sickness, pain, respiratory functions, and reproductive systems.

Here's how we use herbal teas:

Birth:

Red Raspberry tea is a common birth tonic. This tea balances hormones and helps to prepare the body for ovulation when taken during the follicular phase. Drink 2 to 3 cups daily starting on day 1 of your cycle, and stop during ovulation.

Midwives often recommend raspberry leaf starting during the 2nd trimester. Because it tones the womb, it is not as safe during 1st trimester.

Energy:

Energy is about moving your "inner chi". Teas that assist in boosting your mood and getting you moving are commonly citrus and green tea based. This is because they are both high in vitamin c. Green tea has a habit of boosting metabolism and slowing the rate of caffeine absorption. Green tea is often paired with other flavors or taken as it. Sweet orange tea is another energy go to with an attractive flavor. I love to mix these two together in a blend I call energy

Relax:This is my absolute favorite tea. Yup! You guessed it. Lavender! This aromatic floral herb is known for its relaxant properties in all forms. But when mixed in a warm cup wit a dam of honey, it's truly dream-worthy. Another common calming tea is chamomile. Imagine, right before bed, your favorite cup, your current read and a cup of chamomile with a drop of milk. Mmmmm!

Breathe: Just inhaling a mint variety will start to ease nasal congestion. Although, peppermint tea is also know for it's relaxing nature, the benefits that a cup has on the respiratory system it just as impressive. Warming the chest and breaking down mucus build up helps us breathe clearer and easier. Spearmint works well here too.

Womb: When we talk about womb health, we are talking about the integrity of the muscular walls within the uterus. Hibiscus tea tones and strengthens. Drink a cup of hibiscus tea a couple of days prior to your scheduled period to reduce painful cramping, regulate blood temperature, and rhythm of your menstrual cycle. Because this tea lowers blood pressure to the uterus, this is not safe for pregnancy.
