Wow! Thanks to 2020's sequence of unknown events, we are all working out in our living room. Well some of us. Some of us are still distracted by the weird noise the refrigerator makes in the morning. For some of us the bed is too tempting or our phone is too close in reach to focus long enough, often enough for these new fangled online yoga classes.

Why is that? Why are you not finding the zen you did at your favorite studio pre-COVID? Studios invest a lot of time and effort into their feng shui so you get those calming vibes as soon as you hit the door. In order to have a successful home yoga practice, one must create space for the peace you would like to achieve, by spending time and effort into space dedicated for such, making an investment into your wellbeing.

Feng Shui: Think about your home. Where do you naturally gravitate to for a relaxing moment? Is it the large window on the southside our your house, where the sun rises? Is it in the bedroom near your spiritual alter? This is the place that you want to roll out your mat and plan to practice at least once a week. Add some candles, deity statues, and/or plants to remind you of that yin yang feeling.

Time: Class starts at 10am. It is now 9:42 and your face is still stuck to the pillow. When you were prepping for class at your favorite studio you would leave an hour early. However now that you are practicing in your Zen room 20ft away, it too easy to roll out of bed just minutes before class, or skip it completely. That's not the goal. We want to keep a regular practice for an optimal way of life. Try setting adding your 10am class to your calendar with a reminder at least 1hr before class. Try this with a friend so that you are both dedicated.

Accountability: "I love a good free online yoga class. I do! If I skip a class, I can always go back a catch another one." This skipping a class becomes a habit. And you're right. No one will care if you skip a class. Newsflash! I will. When you make a monetary investment, not only are you likely to make to be more dedicated to where your dollars are going, you are now paying a teacher to do what they love. When you miss a class, I will wonder where you are on your wellness journey. Because you are invested in your time, I will be. Making this exchange with your favorite teacher enhance your practice, grow your dedication, and keep your home yoga practice alive.
